Amnesia: The Dark Descent
I couldn't find an extant thread via Google, and since (I hope) a lot of people picked it up on sale, here's a thread.
I've just reached the So, yes. Take it away, CoG! |

The section you just reached, JRR, is definitely the one that really sells the game. I've only made it just past that section, though, despite owning the game over a month. The next monster after that killed me and I have been too freaked out to try again.
Easily one of, if not the, scariest game I've ever played. It was a bold move to not give the player any weapons at all, leaving you completely vulnerable, and the only thing they give you, light, being far too limited. Other games that scared me, like Eternal Darkness or Dead Space, eventually become less foreboding as you gather a small arsenal to fight off your foes. I get the feeling you're going to remain helpless all the way through the game in Amnesia, or at least up until the end game. |

the monster i was at is the second or third after the water part. he is hard and scary and i spent 15 minutes total hiding from him, probably didnt ned to spend that long but i did.
game is getting harder as there are a lot less cabinets showing up. i hate waiting in corners, i feel so vulnerable. |

I was playing "Throw books in the water to keep the monsters busy while I then run in the opposite direction" game.
Fun times. I do love the juggling between the finite resources you have. Low on light? Hide in the shadows and lose sanity.

Good luck, fellows. The opening hours are exhilirating. But round about hour 7 or 8, you'll have to find the same determination to drive forward as Mr. Puss-puss. (I can't remember the protagonist's name at the moment.) Last edited by Vigil80; 01-01-2011 at 05:00 PM. |

I've been playing. Now I'm listening to the Pokemon theme. It's all I can handle.
I want to be the very best ... *whimper* |

Just do them at the same time, and you'll be golden.

This should amuse you guys. I started playing this before visiting my parents for xmas on my crt. I got to the part where you read the note, then was stuck. Eventually, I somehow decided that the only rationales thing to do was to gather a bunch of boxes under the big hole in the ceiling and climb up there. I only realized this wasn't correct when I got my viewpoint above the floor and saw nothing was in the room and the floor didn't have a texture. After a bunch of exploring, and using way more light than I should have needed,I finally saw what I had been missing.
Fortunately, my parents bought me a new monitor for xmas,so I should be golden now.

Except in this game a secret area would contain an even more horrific monster that rips your face off as soon as you pop your head up.
